What we’ve already built at Parrs Wood

Since March 2025 we’ve quietly become part of the furniture for a group of your pupils — delivering their core curriculum online, and lately running live lessons on your own timetable. The relationship is working. This proposal is about the one thing it doesn’t yet do.

Pupils consistently report in our post-lesson surveys that they enjoy their lessons, with no technical or wellbeing flags raised — a strong base to build on.

The gap

Groups are brilliant. Some pupils need 1:1.

Our Academy and Blueprint provision is delivered in groups of six or fewer — the right model for most. But in any AP cohort there are pupils whose needs the group simply can’t fully meet: an EHCP, significant SEND, acute anxiety, or a profile that needs the lesson built entirely around them. Right now, those pupils get the group offer or nothing.

What the group model does well

  • Re-engages reluctant learners through belonging
  • Delivers English, Maths & Science at pace
  • Cost-effective — shared across ≤6 pupils
  • Matches your timetable (Blueprint)

Where a group can’t reach

  • EHCP pupils needing fully individualised teaching
  • Pupils too anxious for a group setting
  • Complex SEND requiring 1:1 pacing & adaptation
  • Pupils on your books not yet placed anywhere

This is an additive layer — not a replacement for what we already do. It catches the pupils the group format, by design, can’t.

The proposal

Compass: one teacher, one pupil

1:1 online tutoring designed around a single high-need or SEND learner — the same trusted Purple Ruler teaching team, the same safeguarding, the same reporting you already see, focused entirely on one pupil at a time.

🎯

Built around the pupil

Subjects, pace and approach set to the EHCP or individual plan — not a fixed scheme. Ideal for re-entry, exam survival, or holding a place open.

🛡️

Same assurance

Ofsted-registered provision, DSL oversight, and the safeguarding & reporting wrap you already trust for your Academy pupils.

🤝

You keep oversight

Purple Ruler delivers and evidences the teaching; Parrs Wood retains the pupil relationship, commissioning control and the EHCP lead.

Independently verified

“A significant strength of Purple Ruler is the support staff provide for pupils with SEND… each pupil receives carefully tailored, individualised teaching.”

— Ofsted monitoring report, October 2025

Meets all minimum standards for online education — across all eight sections.

“Staff help pupils to reignite their spark for learning… a calm and nurturing online environment” — and commissioners “feel well-informed”.

The individualised-SEND teaching Ofsted singles out as our strength is exactly what Compass delivers.

How it could look

Three pupils Compass is built for

Illustrative profiles — we’d shape the real list with you from the pupils you have in mind.

YEAR 11 · EHCP

The exam-survival case

A pupil with an EHCP, weeks from GCSEs, unable to cope in any group. 1:1 English & Maths built purely around the exams that still count.

→ A realistic shot at graded outcomes
YEAR 9 · Anxiety

The bridge back

Severe anxiety; the ≤6 group is still too much. Starts 1:1, builds trust with one teacher, then steps up into an Academy group when ready.

→ A staged route, not all-or-nothing
YEAR 10 · Complex SEND

The tailored plan

A profile needing fully individualised pacing and adaptation that no scheme-of-work covers. 1:1 lets the teaching meet the plan exactly.

→ Provision that matches the paperwork

Compass (Category C)

£29.17per hour, per pupil

The same rate as your Blueprint provision. You commission by the session — pay for the 1:1 hours a pupil actually needs, scale up or pause as their plan changes. No per-registered-learner charge, no minimum term.

Optional Enhanced Mental Health wrap available at £180/month per learner where a pupil needs it.

Compass slots neatly into the ladder you’re already on:

A 6-week pilot, one pupil

Pick the single pupil who most needs 1:1 right now. We run a six-week Compass block, share the evidence and your usual reporting, and you decide whether to grow it. No lock-in.

  1. You name the pupil — the EHCP or high-need learner the group can’t reach.
  2. We start within days — matched teacher, individual plan, safeguarding in place.
  3. Six weeks, then review — attendance, engagement and progress evidence on the table.

Shall we line up the first pupil?

We’d love to scope this with you on the back of our reflections call.
